How to Play Volleyball

Volleyball is relatively easy to learn, does not require expensive equipment, and can be enjoyed by people of almost any age. Perhaps that’s why, according to the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), 1 in 6 people worldwide either plays or watches volleyball.

When first learning how to play volleyball, it’s important to understand how to score points. To score a point in volleyball, a team must win a rally. A rally is begun by a server serving the ball into play. The ball is served over the net to the opposing team.

For some its clear and simple. Its to get to the ball and swipe it from any angle. 1 in 6 people either play or watch volleyball. It’s a very under-rated game. If you want to get higher and have more control over the ball more times and with better agility and efficiency you really need to hone your technique.

Serve the ball. The player positioned in the back-left corner of the field serves the ball by using their hand or arm to propel it over the net. If the ball fails to go over the net on the serve, possession moves to the opposing team. Each time the serve switches teams, players should rotate to the left to change positions and servers.

A front row player may contact the ball anywhere on or off the court. A back row player behind the attack line may contact the ball on or off of the court, above or below the top of the net. A back row player who is on, or in front of, the attack line, may not attempt to block or attack the ball above the top of the net. Blocking a served ball is prohibited.
