Experience the road like never before with the standard-fit AGILITY CONTROL package. The new CClass is a pleasure to behold: its taut lines lend it an air of effortless superiority while the wide radiator grille and distinctive rear section announce a vehicle with a dynamic personality. You’ll also find the interior offers notably more space – and, thanks to fine materials and a new design, a more distinctive atmosphere.
Mercedes Benz C class in its various exterior and interior designs include striking three-slat radiator grille, modified sill covers, clear lens headlamps and fog lamps, high brilliance tail lights and third brake light, ‘olive-ash’ wood trim, chrome trim strips on the center console, surface grain with a matte-look finish on interior trim parts etc. Safety features include danger warning yellow symbolic light inside the cockpit; ABS, ESP, Brake assist etc for preventing accident; side bags in the front door and window bags to prevent impact on the passenger from collision etc.

With its next C-Class, all-new for 2008, Mercedes is encroaching even further into the performance realm. Mercedes is introducing the ’08 with a simplified lineup — there are only two trims, Luxury and Sport, and they can be distinguished from afar, from the front especially, due to their very different front-end treatments. The Luxury follows the tradition of the C-Class and other Mercedes sedans, with the familiar chrome grille and three-pointed star hood ornament. The Sport takes a new tack, with no hood ornament but rather a body-color, straked grille and large emblem in the middle of the grille.

Transmissions

At the launch all W202 variants were equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 722.4 4-speed automatic transmission, also called 4G-TRONIC, was available as extra cost (standard on the C 36 AMG). In 1996 this old transmission - which was on sale since 1981 - was replaced by a 5-speed automatic gearbox (aka 722.5 or 5G-TRONIC), which received the manual shifting in 1999 (722.6). In 2000 the T-Modell, the only still on sale, was equipped with the G56 6-speed manual transmission.

German Design

Mercedes Benz says the design of the new C-Class is based on the modern Mercedes idiom - which can be seen in the other next generation Mercs, such as theCL-Class coupe and the S-Class saloon - that uses a new style to reflect the technical superiority of its automobiles. The new 2008 C-Class, which is Mercedes biggest selling and because of this also one of it’s most important models, gets a pronounced wedge-shape that serves to emphasise attributes such as agility and performance, according to theGerman marque.

The engine line-up now includes the supercharged 192bhp 230K unit, previously only offered in the Sport Coupe but now available in the saloon and estate as well, and the output of the C220 CDI diesel has been increased to 150bhp. UK buyers are also offered the supercharged C180 K, C200 K and the C 320 petrol units and the C 200 CDI and C270 CDI diesels, as well as the 367bhp C55 AMG. Specification levels have been improved, which offsets the slight price rise for this new range, and options packs have been simplified. The Mercedes Benz C-Class isn’t cheap by any stretch of the imagination, but it looks better value than ever.

Pedestrian protection

Child head impact Three of the six test locations met proposed legislation. One was above the oil filler cap and two were over bonnet strengtheners. Two points were better than average, and one was worse: situated at the join between bonnet and wing. Upper leg impact None of the three tests met proposed legislation: all were worse than average. Adult head impact No tests met proposed legislation, although one, on one of the windscreen wash nozzles, came close.
